my acai bowl recipe

I think one of my favorite things about this snack is how creative you can be with it. I started making acai bowls back in 2015 when I was a freshman in college, and since spring is almost here, I thought it would be the perfect time to share my recipe!
The hardest thing about making acai is the prep time. It's not something you can make on a whim unless you've got all the ingredients prepared. However, the health benefits far outweigh any extra time spent preparing it. Acai berries are stacked with antioxidants, which can be good for your brain, heart and overall health.
My acai bowl ingredients:
Blend:
1 bar of unsweetened acai berry superfruit
2 frozen bananas (peel & cut the banana in half, then stick in a bag to freeze)
1/4 cup milk or almond milk (I use unsweetened almond milk)
Toppings (optional):
1/2 frozen banana (chopped)
handful of frozen strawberries (I like to defrost mine some before adding them in)
1/2 of a kiwi - sliced (my favorite addition!)
handful of raspberries (frozen or room temp)
handful of pomegranates
chocolate shavings (I just buy a hershey's bar and shave some off with a knife - honestly the best part)
coconut shavings (I've had trouble finding these but eventually found them at Fresh Market!)
raw honey (drizzle it over the top)
And there you have it! It may seem like a lot of work - but that's because it is! Nothing healthy and delicious ever comes easy! Just know that you might not make it perfect the first go around, it takes time to perfect.
Hope you guys enjoy, and one last tip - stick your bowl in the freezer before you use it!
