It’s no surprise that Jesse and I live on opposite sides of the country from our families. We don’t want to sugar cote it, it’s tough. But some days are even tougher than others, that’s why we do what we can to help one another cope with the distance.
Weekly FaceTimes
Madison: Weekly FaceTime calls are my favorite part of the weekend. I get to chat with my parents and Liv about everything that happened throughout the week. Seeing them always brings a smile to my face.
Doing things that remind us of home
Jesse: Doing things that I would often do back home makes me feel less far away. For example I still play disc golf, and watch the occasional NBA game.
Texting
Madison: If I thought I wouldn’t get my dad’s daily dose of silly all the way in SF, I was wrong! He’s just as funny through text. I also recently introduced him to gifs - best thing ever!
Cooking
Jesse: The ability to make food in our apartment is great because we are able to eat things that remind us of back home! We certainly weren’t experts at cooking when we got here (especially me), but we are really getting good at it and it helps us feel closer to home.
Writing letters
Madison: Why did writing letters ever go out of style? I love this lost art form. If you're ever looking for a more personal touch, pick up a pen and start writing - it means so much to the receiver!
Planning trips home
Madison: Scheduling flights home makes me feel more comfortable with the temporary distance. Jesse and I love to plan and talk about upcoming trips, so buying a plane ticket home in advance gives us something to look forward to!
